A) It sounded like fun but at first I was intimidated because it was dance. But it’s so much fun.

Kirby's dance program instills love of dance in students

Noelia Jones is changing the way students at Kirby High School view their academic studies and the real world.
Jones is an adjunct professor in the dance department at the University of Memphis and is also teaching dance at the high school.
“I didn’t expect students to embrace dance,” Jones said.
Jones is from New York and has been in multiple off-Broadway plays. For five seasons she danced for the Memphis Grizzlies Dance Team.

Whether you call it Beach Boy Surfing, Hoe He’e Nalu, or simply stand-up paddle surfing, this new and innovative sport is gaining popularity across the globe.
A glimpse of how stand-up paddle-surfing works on lakes, rather than ocean waters, was provided by Outdoors Inc., which offers a large demo of the sport every May at Shelby Farms or by appointment anytime of the year.

Memphis has highest infant mortality rate in U.S.

The infant mortality rate is the number of deaths of infants under one year old for every 1,000 live births.
According to The Commercial Appeal, premature birth is the leading cause of infant mortality in the country, with the Memphis-Shelby County Area ranking first in premature-related deaths for the last 10 years.
